An overlay is an image file (usually a PNG or JPEG) that you place on top or behind of your photo to add creative effects. Like clouds, skies, light beams, glitter, textures, and more — without permanently changing the original image until you save it.
You’ll need editing software like Photoshop to use overlays properly, though there are other options too.
Just drag the overlay into your photo, then resize, rotate, mask, or blend it however you like.
Most photographers use blend modes like Multiply (to darken), Screen (to lighten), or Soft Light (for contrast) to create beautiful effects.
You can also use overlays as full background replacements —cutting out your subject and placing them in front.
