The sweet newborn pose your clients will love - how to capture this simple, safe shot

This beautiful Newborn shot takes seconds to set up and capture, but is adored by your clients. Seeing baby so small and content resting between Mama and Daddy's hands is our client's all time favorite shot. Without a doubt, this the most popular newborn photograph we get asked for most every session.

Not only is this shot incredibly safe (baby never leaves the beanbag and is certainly not lifted), it involves the parents and is very comfortable and easy for baby. The illusion that baby is lifted in their parents hands, combined with a dramatic Black & White finish creates a unique, timeless and touching memory that the parents will absolutely treasure.

Beautiful Baby Posing

Simplicity is key in this shot. Absolutely minimal retouching is needed after, as the whole point of the finished piece is to see baby as the delicate, brand new little life they are.

It is also wonderful (and important) to involve baby's parents in the shoot as much as you possibly can. This is the first time they have let a stranger handle their beautiful new baby of any extended period of time and I find adding this shot in at the end of the session makes a wonderful transition to the session finale; finishing with baby in Mama and Daddy's safe hands is a tender end to a memorable newborn session.

This shot can be achieved in baby is awake or asleep, so long as baby is content and relaxed. Please enjoy the video tutorial of how you can set up, capture and create this shot: WATCH THE VIDEO HERE:

#TIP - work the angles! Stand over baby to create an aerial shot, move around and find that sweet spot.

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial! This is certainly our client's favourite shot and is such a joy to capture.

Happy shooting!

Please Always Remember: Safety for your newborn client is THE most important thing to remember in any shot. Please make sure baby is never lifted from the bean bag. Also, remember Mama has recently given birth so make her comfortable and please ask her to inform you if she is uncomfortable at any time during this shot. Please make sure she rests her arms so as not to strain the abdominal muscles. This is especially important in the event of a C-Section. For more information about safety when posing newborn babies please visit the Baby And Newborn Photography Association's website at www.BANPAS.co.uk . At no point should baby be unsafe during their session.

Photographers: DIY: How To Make A Real Wood Distressed Backdrop

For as long as I've been a newborn photographer, I've been longing for a real wood distressed backdrop. I have plenty of vinyl wood-effect printed drops, click-together laminate boards coming out of my ears, but it's not the real thing.
